Where it works, and where it does not
Tommy John sells through other retailers as well as its own channels. Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack and Dillard's all carry the brand. A Tommy John gift card does not work at any of them. Redemption is limited to tommyjohn.com and Tommy John's own retail stores. Tommy John's return policy draws the same line: they only handle returns and exchanges for items bought directly from them, and send you back to the retailer for anything else. So if the plan is a department store trip, this is the wrong card. If the plan is tommyjohn.com or one of their stores, it is the right one. Their retail footprint is small and concentrated. Check the store locator on tommyjohn.com before you count on a store visit.
Paying part of an order with the card
Straightforward here. Each transaction is debited against the gift card balance, and if the order comes to more than the card holds, you pay the difference at checkout with another method. That means you do not need to match the card to the basket. Tommy John's range spans a wide price band, from a multipack of underwear up to outerwear, so a balance that covers part of an order is genuinely useful rather than an obstacle.
Why a discount works on basics
Underwear, undershirts, socks and bras are replacement purchases. Nobody buys them once. They wear out on a schedule and get replaced in batches, usually the same sizes and styles as last time. That is the cleanest case for buying the balance ahead of the purchase. There is no decision to make about what to get, no sizing risk once you know your size, and the discount applies to a category you will buy again regardless. Getting cash back on a small leftover balance
Tommy John publishes a threshold most brands do not. If the card has a remaining balance of $10.00 or less, you can request a refund by calling 866-986-1154 or emailing [email protected]. Stacking with sales and promotions
Tommy John runs sales and promotional codes through the year. Those work on the price of the goods. A discounted gift card works on the money you are paying with, so both apply to the same order. No. Tommy John states gift cards are nonrefundable and cannot be exchanged, apart from the small remaining balance provision above.
