How to Check Your Gift Card Balance for Any Brand

How to check the balance on any gift card, plus direct balance-check links and the catches to know for Home Depot, Best Buy, Nike, and more.

Forgot how much is left on a gift card? You're not alone, and checking takes about a minute. Almost every gift card balance can be checked the same handful of ways, and below that we've listed the direct balance-check link for the brands people ask about most, grouped by category, with the quirks worth knowing for each one.

Retailer policies and checkout systems change frequently. The details below were accurate at the time of writing, but it's always worth checking a retailer's current payment FAQ if you run into trouble.

The four ways to check almost any gift card balance

Check online at the retailer's balance page. Usually the fastest. Enter the card number and the PIN or security code, and the balance shows on screen.
Check in the retailer's app. For account-credit brands like Amazon, Uber, Lyft, Instacart, eBay, and DoorDash, there is no balance page. You apply the card to your account, and the balance shows there as credit.
Call the number on the back of the card. Every issuer has an automated balance line, and some, like DoorDash, can also confirm whether a card is valid.
Ask at the register or customer service desk. Any associate can scan the card and tell you the balance.

For the online and phone methods you need the card number and the PIN or security code, usually a 4 to 8 digit code under a scratch-off panel or near the barcode.

Did you know? In some states, once your remaining balance drops below a set amount (under $15 in California, for example), the retailer has to give you the rest in cash if you ask. The exact cutoff depends on where you live. See our guide to state laws requiring merchants to cash out gift cards.

Home and garden

Home Depot: check balance, call 1-800-466-3337, or use any register. Up to 10 cards per purchase. Cards can lock if used from different IP addresses in a short window, and usually free up after about 5 days.
Lowe's: check balance, call 1-800-560-7172, or use the Customer Service desk. Up to 5 e-gift cards per transaction. Lowe's may temporarily lock a card based on usage; if that happens, wait about 6 days and avoid re-checking the balance in the meantime, since checking can restart the lock.
Wayfair: no public balance page; your balance shows in your Wayfair account at checkout. Cards are interchangeable across Wayfair, AllModern, Birch Lane, Joss & Main, and Perigold. US only.
ACE Hardware: check balance. Works at participating ACE Hardware stores nationwide. Online orders are capped at 3 cards or $250, and the cards can't be used on online orders set for in-store pickup.
IKEA: check balance (sign-in required), or at any US IKEA store. The cards sold here are online-use-only at ikea.com and need the PIN. Not valid in the IKEA restaurant or food market. If you apply the card at checkout and then leave the page, it can place a temporary hold on the balance that clears on its own.
Michaels: check balance, or at any US Michaels store. Good for merchandise and class fees.
Williams Sonoma: check balance. One card works across the whole Williams-Sonoma family: Williams Sonoma, Pottery Barn, Pottery Barn Kids, PBteen, West Elm, and Mark & Graham. US and Puerto Rico.
Pottery Barn: check balance. Same Williams-Sonoma family card, so it also works at Williams Sonoma, West Elm, PBteen, Pottery Barn Kids, and Mark & Graham.
Tractor Supply Co.: check balance (sign-in required). Works at Tractor Supply stores and tractorsupply.com.
Yankee Candle: check balance, or call 1-800-545-6882. Works in Yankee Candle stores, at yankeecandle.com, and by phone.

Apparel, footwear, and sporting goods

Nike: check balance, in the Nike app, or call 1-800-806-6453. Valid at Nike and Converse only. Does not work at Foot Locker, Dick's, Nordstrom, or Finish Line.
Adidas: check balance, or call 1-800-982-9337. No expiration and no fees. Up to 5 cards per order. Not valid at Reebok, Rockport, or Yeezy Supply.
Dick's Sporting Goods: check balance. Also valid at Field & Stream and Golf Galaxy and their websites.
Fanatics: check balance. Works at Fanatics.com and the league stores it powers, including the NFL Shop, NBA Store, MLB Shop, and NHL Shop.
REI: check balance, call 1-855-873-5456, or visit any store. Works at REI stores and rei.com.
Gap: check balance. Interchangeable across Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic, and Athleta. Up to 5 cards per order.
Academy Sports + Outdoors: check balance. Works at Academy stores and academy.com.
Finish Line: check balance, or call 1-888-345-7940. Also valid at Finish Line at Macy's and JD Sports.
Foot Locker: check balance, or call 1-877-254-3333. Also valid at Kids and Lady Foot Locker, Footaction, Champs Sports, and Eastbay.com. Up to 5 cards per transaction.
Zappos: no balance lookup page; your balance shows in your Zappos account at checkout. Works at zappos.com only, and not for resale or commercial shipments. To redeem, enter the card number and PIN combined as one code.
Lululemon: check balance. Works at lululemon.com and Lululemon stores. The cards sold here are for online use or in-store pickup only.
Tory Burch: check balance. Works at toryburch.com, US Tory Burch boutiques, and Tory Sport. Not usable on orders shipping outside the US.
Under Armour: check balance, or call 1-800-269-5986. Works at Under Armour US stores and ua.com. Not redeemable through resellers.
Bass Pro Shops: check balance, or call 1-800-237-4444. Bass Pro and Cabela's share one card, so it works at both chains and both websites.
Cabela's: check balance, or call 1-800-237-4444. Same card as Bass Pro Shops; works at both chains and websites.
Sportsman's Warehouse: check balance, or at sportsmans.com. Works at Sportsman's Warehouse stores and sportsmans.com.
Carter's: check balance. Works at Carter's and OshKosh B'gosh stores and at carters.com and oshkosh.com. If your PIN is 3 digits, add a leading zero.
Nautica: check balance, or call 1-800-832-0656. Works at Nautica stores in the US and Puerto Rico and at nautica.com.
Columbia: check balance. Works at columbia.com and Columbia retail and outlet stores in the US.
Scheels: check balance, or ask at any register. Works at SCHEELS All Sports stores.
Famous Footwear: check balance, or call 1-888-932-6687. Works at Famous Footwear, Famous Footwear Outlet, and famousfootwear.com. US only.
Victoria's Secret: check balance. Works at Victoria's Secret and PINK stores and at victoriassecret.com. US and Puerto Rico.
ON Running: check balance. Online only at on-running.com, and the card has to match the site's currency, so a US card works on the US site.

Department stores and everyday retail

Macy's: check balance, call 1-800-511-2752, or use any register. US redemption only. If you check by phone, have the PIN ready, as the line may ask for it with the card number.
Kohl's: check balance, call 1-800-655-0554, or ask any associate. Up to 4 cards per order.
Nordstrom: check balance, call 1-877-283-4045, or ask at any store. Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack cards are interchangeable.
Target: check balance, call 1-800-544-2943, in the Target app, or at any register. The online checker may ask you to sign in. No product restrictions.
Amazon: check balance while signed in. Redeems to your Amazon account balance with no practical limit on cards. Not for reselling or commercial sourcing.
Walmart: check balance, or at any register. Also works at Sam's Club and Murphy USA. Walmart may lock cards used on a VPN, abroad, or across different IPs, or for resale.
eBay: no balance page; check it at ebay.com/ebaygiftcard once redeemed to your account. Needs a US eBay and PayPal account, links to your account on first use, and has daily and monthly redemption limits.
TJ Maxx: check balance, or ask at any store. One card works across the whole TJX family: TJ Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods, Homesense, and Sierra, in store and online. US and Puerto Rico.
Marshalls: check balance, or ask at any store. Same TJX card as TJ Maxx, so it also works at HomeGoods, Homesense, and Sierra.
Sierra: check balance, or ask at any store. Same TJX card, so it also works at TJ Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods, and Homesense. Sierra is the outdoor-gear store of the group.
Bloomingdale's: check balance, or call 1-800-511-2752. Works at Bloomingdale's, Bloomingdale's The Outlet, Bloomie's, and bloomingdales.com. US only.
Saks Fifth Avenue: check balance, or call 1-877-551-7257. Works at Saks Fifth Avenue, Saks OFF 5TH, saks.com, and saksoff5th.com. No non-US shipping.
Belk: check balance, or call 1-800-474-6102. Works at Belk stores and belk.com.
JCPenney: check balance. Works at JCPenney stores and jcpenney.com. Online orders take up to 2 cards; use 3 or more in store.
QVC: no balance lookup page; check at qvc.com or call 1-888-345-5788. Works at qvc.com, by phone, and in the QVC app.
Burlington: check balance, or call 1-800-987-1734. Works at Burlington and Baby Depot stores and at burlington.com.
Poshmark: no balance lookup on the product page; check at poshmark.giftcardhelp.com. Redeemable at poshmark.com, US only.
Lego: check balance, or contact LEGO customer service. Works at lego.com and LEGO Stores.
Neiman Marcus: check balance. Works at Neiman Marcus stores and neimanmarcus.com.
Boscov's: no lookup link on the product page; call 1-888-850-9964 or check at boscovs.com. Works at Boscov's stores and boscovs.com.

Health and beauty

Sephora: check balance, or call 1-888-860-7897. Works at Sephora, sephora.com, and Sephora at Kohl's. US only.
Bath & Body Works: check balance, or call 1-800-640-6052. Also valid at White Barn. Cashable in-store once the balance drops under $10.
Ulta: check balance, or call 1-888-566-2736. Not valid at Ulta Beauty at Target or via DoorDash. Up to 5 cards or $1,000 per online order.

Electronics, office, and gaming

Best Buy: check balance, call 1-888-716-7994, or use any register. Up to 10 cards per online order, 15 per in-store purchase. There's also a limit of about 10 cards per hour, so if you hit an error mid-order, wait a bit or try from a different network.
Apple: check balance (you'll need to sign in, and Apple only lets you check a few cards per day), or call 1-800-275-2273. US only. Best practice is to redeem cards to your Apple Account balance and pay from that balance rather than entering cards at checkout, which accepts only 4 at a time. To use a card in a physical store, add it to your Apple Account balance first, then pay with Apple Wallet in store.
Staples: check balance, or call 1-800-333-3330. Up to 5 cards per purchase. Not valid on Instacart orders or custom Print & Marketing Services.
GameStop: check balance, or at gamestop.com. Also valid at EB Games and ThinkGeek. May lock cards used for resale.
Office Depot / OfficeMax: no balance lookup page; check at officedepot.com or call 1-877-776-5056. One card works at both Office Depot and OfficeMax, in store and online. Bring the PIN.
Google Play: no balance page; redeem the code at play.google.com/redeem and the balance lives in your Google Play account. For Google Play only (apps, games, movies, books, in-app purchases), not hardware. US, 13+. Check the brand's page for current redemption rules.
PlayStation: no balance page; redeem on your PS5 or PS4 under Settings, Account Management, Redeem Codes, or at the PlayStation Store site. Funds land in your PSN wallet, shown at the top right of the Store. Check the brand's page for current redemption rules.
Xbox: no balance page; redeem at microsoft.com/redeem or on your console. Funds go to your Microsoft account balance, which a Microsoft account is required to view. Check the brand's page for current redemption rules.
Nintendo eShop: no balance page; redeem in the Nintendo eShop and the funds attach to your Nintendo Account balance. US accounts only. Check the brand's page for current redemption rules.

Entertainment, streaming, and tickets

Netflix: no balance page; redeem at netflix.com/redeem and it credits your Netflix account, then applies automatically to your subscription.
Barnes & Noble: check balance (sign-in required). Works at Barnes & Noble stores, bn.com, and Barnes & Noble College stores.
StubHub: no balance page; the full amount deposits to your StubHub account on redemption and shows there. Redeem at stubhub.com or by phone, and you'll need a StubHub account.
Roblox: no balance page; redeem at roblox.com/redeem and it becomes Roblox Credit in your account, used for Robux or Premium. Needs a Roblox account.
Groupon: no balance page; redeem at groupon.com and it credits your account as Groupon Bucks.

Sports betting

These work a little differently. The code adds credit inside the operator's app, so for most there's no separate balance lookup page and your balance shows in the app once it's redeemed. All are 21+ and only available where the operator is licensed.

DraftKings: check balance, or redeem the code in the DraftKings app, where it posts to your account balance.
Caesars Sportsbook: redeem in the Caesars Sportsbook app by choosing Debit Card as the deposit method. Enter the card number, then use the first 3 digits of the PIN as the CVV and the last 4 as the expiration (so a PIN of 1230126 means CVV 123, exp 01/26). The funds post to your account.
BetMGM: redeem in the BetMGM app, where it posts to your account.

Travel

Airbnb: no balance page; check it in your Airbnb account under Payments & payouts. Redeems as travel credit. Airbnb adds up to 8 cards per rolling 24 hours, and adding several in quick succession can trip up the system, so space them out.
Southwest Airlines: check balance, or call 1-866-393-2081. Up to 3 cards per order, or 2 if you're also paying with a credit card. Southwest flights only.
Delta Air Lines: check balance, or call 1-800-221-1212. Good toward airfare, taxes, and fees only, not baggage, upgrades, or in-flight purchases. Delta-marketed flights only.
Hotels.com: check balance, or call 1-888-999-4468. For new online bookings at hotels.com/gc only. One card per booking, though cards can be merged into one up to $2,000. Not valid at hotel front desks or on Pay-at-Hotel bookings.
Lyft: no balance page; check it in the Lyft app, where it credits to your account. There's a $500 maximum gift-card balance per account, and a backup payment method is required.
Disney: check balance, or call 1-877-650-4327. One of the most flexible cards out there, good at Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, Disney store locations, shopDisney, and Disney+. A pre-authorization hold usually clears within about 24 hours.
Turo: no balance page; you redeem the card to your Turo account and the credit shows there. US only, and your account must be fully verified before you can redeem.
Marriott: check balance, register the card in the Marriott Bonvoy app, or call 1-800-442-6132. Good for stays, dining, and spa at thousands of hotels across the Marriott family, including Westin, Sheraton, W, St. Regis, Ritz-Carlton, and Courtyard.

Cruises

Carnival: check balance, or ask at Guest Services onboard. Covers the cruise fare and onboard spending. Book directly with Carnival, not through Expedia or Costco Travel.
Princess Cruises: check balance, call 1-888-925-3416, or ask at Guest Services onboard. Covers the cruise fare and onboard spending. Book directly through Princess.
Holland America Line: check balance, or call 1-877-932-4259. Apply cards at hollandamerica.com or through your booking. Covers the fare and onboard spending.
Royal Caribbean: sold as a certificate, so there is no balance to look up; the face value applies to a new booking only. Redeem by emailing your reservation, not online, and it can't cover onboard charges.
Celebrity Cruises: sold as a certificate, no balance lookup. Applies to a new booking's fare only, not the deposit. Redeem by email or by calling 1-888-837-5676, and the full certificate must be used.

Food and delivery

DoorDash: no balance page; check it in the DoorDash app under Account, then Payment. Redeems as account credit, and support can confirm a card's validity by phone. Space out redemptions by a few minutes, or DoorDash blocks them for 24 hours.
Uber: no balance page; check it in the Uber app under Wallet, shown as Uber Cash. Uber and Uber Eats cards are interchangeable. US only, and you may need a backup payment method on file.
Uber Eats: no balance page; check it in the Uber or Uber Eats app, shown as Uber Cash. Interchangeable with Uber ride credit. US only, and a backup payment method may be required.
Instacart: no balance page; check it in the Instacart app under your account. Redeems as credit. Accounts hold up to 10 cards and a $1,500 balance, and the cards don't work at Costco Same-Day.
Starbucks: check balance, or call 1-800-782-7282. Load it into the Starbucks app to earn Rewards stars as you spend.
Total Wine & More: check balance, or call 1-888-527-4590. Works at Total Wine stores, but not in New York or at the Overland Park and Wichita, Kansas locations. Must be 21+.
GrubHub: no balance page; redeem at grubhub.com or in the app, where it credits your Grubhub account. Needs a Grubhub account and a backup payment method. US only.
inKind: no balance page; load it in the inKind app, where it shows as inKind Credit. Works at participating independent restaurants; a credit card is needed for tips and overages.

Restaurants and fast food

Chipotle: check balance. Works at Chipotle restaurants, chipotle.com, and the app. Balances under $10 can be cashed out on request.
Domino's: check balance, or call 1-877-250-2278. Works at participating US Domino's, dominos.com, and the app.
Papa John's: check balance, or call 1-800-325-1119. Works at participating Papa John's, papajohns.com, and the app.
Pizza Hut: check balance, or call 1-866-294-6806. Works at participating Pizza Hut locations, pizzahut.com, and the app.
Panda Express: check balance, or call 1-833-299-4875. Works at participating Panda Express restaurants and pandaexpress.com.
Cheesecake Factory: check balance, or call 1-888-891-2429. Works at The Cheesecake Factory restaurants.
Chili's: check balance, or call 1-888-532-6092. Works at Chili's Grill & Bar, On The Border, and Maggiano's Little Italy in the US (all Brinker brands). You can load up to 5 cards to a Chili's account. The online checker is occasionally down, so the phone line is the reliable backup.
Olive Garden: check balance, or call 1-877-500-9706. One card works across the whole Darden family: Olive Garden, LongHorn Steakhouse, Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen, Yard House, The Capital Grille, Seasons 52, Bahama Breeze, and Eddie V's. You can load up to 5 cards to an Olive Garden online account.
Red Robin: check balance. Works at Red Robin restaurants.
Dunkin': check balance, or load it into the Dunkin' app. Works at participating Dunkin' locations.
Smashburger: no online balance checker; call 1-303-633-1500 or check at smashburger.com. Works at participating Smashburger restaurants.

Pets

PetSmart: check balance, or call 1-800-820-6189. The cards sold here are online-use-only at petsmart.com.
Petco: no online balance checker; check at any Petco or Unleashed by Petco store, or call Customer Care at 1-800-853-7055. Use the store locator at stores.petco.com to find a location. Works at Petco, Unleashed by Petco, and petco.com.
Chewy: no balance lookup page; your balance shows in your Chewy account at checkout. Works at chewy.com only, contiguous US.
